It's Going Well

The facsimile edition of the Scopae Mortuorum is coming along rather nicely.  I've had to share my time between finishing off a small notebook, bound in an Apollo era Lunar map and writing a review for a book for a print magazine.

Several pages are now complete, with further work on the cover delayed until all the text is done.  I'd hate to make a nice looking cover only to find that it's 1/8th inch too small

The Broom Book Project

I'm currently working on a project in my spare time, to bring some of the classic works of BroomKondo to a wider audience.  It's something I've wanted to do for a long time, but thought it would be far too pricey.

Looking at self publishing services online, the cost per volume would have been much too high for me to finance.  It was the present of an Amazon gift voucher that set me along a different route.

With modern desktop printers, the actual text isn't a problem.  I simply type it up and print it out.  But how to present it in a more professional way?  I have done some short A5 booklets in the past, but I wanted something grander.  Browsing through Amazon, considering what I'd spend my birthday voucher on, I remembered seeing a blog post with pictures of some hand bound books the author had made as part of a course and the looked great.  So, I got a Kindle book on the subject and a starter kit that contained the basic supplies needed.

Along with a couple of excellent YouTube guides (I'll add links at the bottom) and I was off and running.  I have to say that I've been rather impressed with the results.  I've never been especially good at anything in the way of arts & crafts.  My drawing skills are close to zero and arts classes back at school put me right off.  I did enjoy Technical Drawing though and can use a ruler, straight edge etc. just fine. Following the instructions, I've made some rather elegant looking notebooks.

Next, I simply need to replace the blank pages that I've been using for the notebook with the printed pages of, say, "The Ways of the Broom" and bind them myself.  Once I have a few made, I can then add the proper library classification on the spine and start inserting them on the shelves of major libraries in the region.

As a side project, I'm also working on a facsimile edition of the famed Scopae Mortuorum .  I'll try and keep you informed of my progress via this blog.

Welcome Again and Again

Well, what a long time its been.  What a long time indeed.  And what have I been up to in the mean time?  This and that, with some reading thrown in too.  One particularly good read was a biography about Kerry Thornley, one of the confounders of Discordianism.  Well worth a read if you find a copy.  At the time I was also reading a book about the JFK assassination not realising the synchronicity between the two.  The Kennedy assassination weaved a complex web throughout Kerry's adult life.  At times it seemed as though Eris the Goddess of Chaos had been summoned and consequences echoed through time and space.  But that can't have been the answer surely.  All just a series of coincidences.  Surely....

Time for Tea

Tea is a wonderful thing!  Can't get enough slack?  Drink more tea and at least you'll feel a bit better about it.  As a good number of fellow SubGeniuns with be from the United States, I thought it would be useful to add instruction s on making the perfect cuppa.  We may not be able to make a good cup of coffee over here in Great Britain, but we do know tea!

To make the perfect cup for one.

1.  Take a good sized mug and rinse with hot water
2.  Fill kettle/pan with fresh water and bring to boil.
3.  Put a tea-bag into warmed mug.
4.  Take mug to the kettle, not the other way round.
5.  Ensure the water is BOILING and fill the mug.
6.  Give it a stir and leave for 3 minutes?
7.  Remove the bag with a spoon, giving it a squeeze as you do it.
8.  Add milk to taste (I recommend going for a darkish tan colour)
9.  Enjoy with a relaxing sit down.

What is "Christmas" ?

Here we are once again.  A week before Christmas and a fortnight before a whole new year.  I hope people stop and give a thought to the true relevance of this time of year.  Just because the Christians renamed a preexisting festival, many film mistakenly associate this time of year with the birth of Jesus.  Putting aside the issue of whether or not such a person ever existed, there is nothing in the Bible to suggest that he was born at this time of year.

The real festival is about celebrating the shortest day and the start of the trek back to the warmth of spring and summer.  We eat foods that have been preserved since the last harvest and celebrate having survived the first half of a season that still does kill the most vulnerable in society.

I hope people remembered the true meaning of what we now call Christmas and resist the message put forward by those who wish to pervert it for their own ends.

Winters Thoughts

At first the left was right,
And now the right is leftish also,
But the middle is always that,
Except on alternate Wednesdays.

The North is sometimes late,
Waiting for his friend the currents,
Who are in turn,
Notoriously bad time keepers.

When all is considered,
We come to one,
Inevitable conclusion,
This is true no matter what,
Even at Christmas.
